Pivotal to our work is connecting everyday people to an extraordinary cause.  Prior to considering volunteering or submitting a volunteer application please review the needed skill sets:

Share Your Profession

We rely on a team of skilled volunteers to work with staff and clients in targeted areas of growth.

Early Childhood Educators

  • Assess children birth to age 4 for developmental benchmarks
  • Map developmental plans to position children below target for academic and developmental success
  • Work weekly with children for 6-9 months on developmental interventions, including speech and gross motor development

Elementary Educators

  • Academically assess children ages 5-12 against national benchmarks
  • Customize academic improvement plans for children performing below grade level in core subject areas
  • Tutor children ages 5-12 for 4 months at 2 hours/week

Nurses | Health Educators

  • Physically assess adults and children
  • Help establish routine healthcare homes for client-families
  • Educate clients on healthy eating/meal planning, benefits of exercise

Personal Trainers | Yoga Instructors

  • Create fitness plans with interested clients in one-on-one setting
  • Meet 1-2x/week with interested clients to work implement fitness plan
  • Teach yoga and mindfulness to parent(s) and child in the home or local park

Share Your Compassion

Whether you’re interested in mentoring a family or repairing a home, your compassion is directly deposited into families.

Mentor a Mother

  • Commit 1 hour/week for 6 months to mentoring a family.
  • Organize social gatherings, local outings, outdoor activities to develop a support system for clients.
  • Assist with job and housing search, resume writing, applications for college and careers.

Repair a Home

  • Provide handyman services in our 20 owned units.
  • Commit 2 hours/month to general repairs, plumbing, drywall, electrical work
  • Deep clean housing units when one family moves out and another moves in

Landscape & Mow

  • Maintain lawns and shrubs at homes of client families
  • Plant and tend landscaping at client homes or Humanitri headquarters
  • Teach a family to maintain a lawn in spring/summer when purchase a first home


  • Hygiene and housekeeping supplies: laundry detergent, vacuum, bath soap, deodorant, shampoo
  • Furniture: Twin and full mattress, pad, linens (most be new), bed frames, kitchen table & chairs, coffee table, couch, recliners
  • Décor and small appliances: lamps, clocks, hammer & nails, wall art, coffee makers, microwaves
  • Exciting Need! Churches: consider organizing a free ‘store’ for clients to shop for furniture and décor. Partner churches and families donate gently used items – free to clients.

Attend a Volunteer Training

We ask that all volunteers attend a volunteer orientation as part of the process of joining the Humanitri team. Monthly orientations are the first Thursday of the month at 5:00PM at Humanitri.
